Access to reliable electricity is a critical component for the effective operation of health centres, especially in rural areas where power shortages are common. The Atacama Consulting Foundation’s Health Programme aims to address this issue by implementing solar energy solutions in health centres with dire needs.
In particular, health centres IIs and IIIs play a critical role in providing primary healthcare services to local communities especially those in rural areas however still face challenges due to unreliable electricity access.
To address this challenge, solar power installations significantly improve energy reliability for health centres while ensuring uninterrupted access to electricity for lighting, refrigeration of essential dugs/vaccines as well as essential for patient well-being and safety. The expected outcomes are visible through the increased ability of health workers to handle emergency situations as well as improved health and well-being for vulnerable populations.
By promoting solar electrification, Solar for Health advances universal health coverage while protecting the environment. It also contributes to Sustainable Development Goals, including climate action and gender equality.
